On Friday morning, 9 January 2026, the FEG’s International Baccalaureate (IB) student group set off on a worthy adventure! Twenty-eight ambitious learners boarded the bus to the Aremberg, where they would spend the next three days at the school’s lodge, on the IB retreat. Throughout the trip, students of the Q1 and EF grades got to know each other and learned about the IB programme.
EF students got to know their future IB teachers and classes, and explored their options for the next two years. Teachers Mrs Kling (Economics) and Mr Dirsch (Physics) even drove down to the mountain, located in the German Eifel region.
The Q1 students, who had been in the programme for six months, had the opportunity to move ahead in their studies, especially in maths with our dedicated IB coordinator, Mrs Josten. Meanwhile, Mr Oster taught the EF students how to use the graphic display calculator with great competence and enthusiasm. And it was really fun.
The lodge, located in the picturesque volcanic Eifel region, offered students plenty of ways to spend their free time. Equipped with an air hockey table, a volleyball net and much more besides, students were encouraged to socialise and enjoy their break. On Saturday, we spent the afternoon sledging on snow-covered hills.
The IB retreat prepares interested students for the IB programme, and allows them to bond as the team they will be for the next few years.

Finally, here are some more comments from the students:
“The landscape is just breathtaking, the atmosphere is great (but cold!), I love the vibe!” (Céleste, EF)
“I love the IB trip because there is such a perfect balance between having fun and actually learning a lot about the IB.” (Johanna, Q1)
